Mecklemore supports Giant Steps
Giant Steps has made a remarkable difference in the lives of our friends and their autistic son, and when the opportunity comes knocking to support the fundraising efforts of the Giant Steps school, we don't think twice. Over the years, we have attended and/or sponsored Giant Steps golf days and annual gala events in Sydney.
This year, we were the lucky guests of our friends at tumbleturn marketing advisory. We had a terrific night, enjoying the cheerful entertainment and fundraising moments mixed with those sombre ones when speeches and the 2024 Giant Steps ball video convey the daily realities faced by families impacted by autism.
This year, the incredible generosity of the 1,000+ attendees and sponsors saw the event return a profit in excess of $500,000, which is wonderful, but you guessed it, nowhere near enough.
Giant Steps: Supporting children and adults on the autism spectrum
Giant Steps is a leading educational institution supporting children and young adults on the autism spectrum. Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder that affects social and communication skills and, to a greater or lesser degree, motor and language skills. Giant Steps was founded in 1995 to help educate children and families experiencing autism, alleviate associated stress, and guide them in achieving measurable results.
Giant Steps operates schools in Sydney and Melbourne and provides adult services programs. The schools take a transdisciplinary approach to education, combining music, occupational, and speech therapy, while Giant Steps' Adult Autism Services provide young adults with a relevant and engaging learning and recreational post-school environment.
Giant Steps does not charge fees for its School Programs. While the Australian, New South Wales and Victorian governments provide support, Giant Steps must raise the majority of funds through corporate or individual donations and fundraising events, such as the ones we have attended in the past and continue to support in the future.
